H2K2, NYC here I come!

In a few hours I will be heading off to NYC with Jason to check out H2K2. I hope to meat a few people I know from online (esp. Artimage, a new MNet hacker).

If you would like to meat up email me, and I hope to get it via Jason’s laptop and 802.11b.

I’m making a CD for him with all the essentials, python, 802.11b sniffer, mnet source code, cygwin, mingw.

The Bandwidth Capital of the World

Wired apparently kicks out a good article once or a while. They used to actually be cool in my book, as two bookshelfs of back issues will attest. While I was living in PNG it was my only connection to the internet news besides a per-kb email account.

In the Aug 2002 issue they have an article on broadbands effect on Korea, which is utterly facinated to amature anthropologist like myself.

Ouch!

Music artist get cheated even more than I thought. Check out this article by Janis Ian, recording artist from way back. Looks like the Courtney Love piece, but written better.

Wisdom in Slashdot.org comments? Who would have thought!

I really liked this comment from /.

No, it means capitalism lost :)

Actually, it was “corporatism” that brought on this failure, not “capitalism”. We’ve been moving away from capitalism here in America since the 1978 Supreme Court decision that defined corporate political donations as “free speech”. Our biggest corporations essentially bought the 1980 elections after that decision.

That’s when these corporations began a major paradigm shift away from “maximizing profits” and towards “controlling markets”. Capitalism requires free markets, and doesn’t function in controlled markets.

Drinking from a firehose

Today I’m attempting to catch up on news. I was at Tate, my family’s home on a lake, with no phones/cellphones/internet for a whole week. At first I just going day by day thru /., opening a tab for each intresting link, but then I had 40 tabs open by the time I got to Wens, and Galeon isn’t coping with it very well (100% cpu useage).

The worst news of last week (of what I read so far): 2600 Dropped the DeCSS Case

Best news: Someone with a bit of clue wrote a story on M$ latest attempt to take over the world in the grey lady.
